JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Program Coordinator

POSITION: MIRC is seeking candidates for a full-time program coordinator position based in any of its Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, or Ypsilanti offices to join its dynamic and committed unaccompanied children’s legal services team. This position is part of a grant-funded team.

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM: MIRC is a legal resource center for immigrants and community advocates with offices in Ypsilanti, Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Kalamazoo. MIRC works to build a thriving Michigan where immigrant communities experience equity and belonging. MIRC’s work includes direct representation, pro bono referrals, impact litigation, training, coalition building, advocacy, technical support, and more. MIRC is a program of Michigan Statewide Advocacy Services, which manages five statewide programs serving vulnerable older adults (Michigan Elder Justice Initiative), victims of domestic violence and elder abuse (Crime Victims Legal Assistance Program), providing research and training support to all legal aid advocates (Michigan Poverty Law Program), and providing access to legal information to self-represented litigants (Michigan Legal Help Program). RESPONSIBILITIES: The program coordinator will work alongside the current program coordinator and will assist with all aspects of MIRC’s work for unaccompanied children such as providing administrative support to attorneys and legal assistants, tracking and managing grant reporting and grant requirements, maintaining program databases, communicating with stakeholders, and tracking deadlines for cases.

QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent communication skills are required. Spanish language skills are preferred. An associate’s degree or commensurate educational and professional experience is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred. Candidate must be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Candidate must be proficient with major software including Excel, gmail, google docs, etc. Proficiency with Microsoft Access would be extremely helpful along with experience creating or maintaining other data management systems. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to social, economic, and racial justice, especially in the area of immigrant rights. No prior legal or immigration experience required, though it is preferred.

BENEFITS: This is a full-time position with a 2021 starting salary at $35,500 and includes excellent health, disability, and fringe benefits.
