MIRC and Michigan United are teaming up again to present an immigration law fundamentals training using course materials from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC). The goal of this training is to prepare students to apply for partial accreditation by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) so that they can practice immigration law under the auspices of a BIA-recognized nonprofit. Becoming accredited requires an immigration law fundamentals course along with additional trainings and practical experience.
Additionally, we are also hoping to train attorneys who are interested in and committed to pro bono representation.
The Training
The training will be simulcast at two locations in Michigan: Detroit and Grand Rapids. Miller Canfield has graciously donated its space and video conference equipment on six Friday mornings so that students in Detroit and Grand Rapids can, essentially, be in one classroom together with the presenters.* The presenters will alternate between locations.
February 3, February 10, February 17, February 24, March 3, and March 10.
*Parking is not included
Costs, materials
When your registration is confirmed, you will receive an e-mail with information about paying the course registration fee of $220 and how to purchase required course materials.
Course materials are sold by the ILRC at a cost of $270 for hard copy only or PDF only, or $310 for the hard copy/PDF combo. (So, the total cost of the training will be either $490 or $530 in two separate payments -- one to us and one to ILRC.)
